Our circumstances and past experiences inevitably shape who we become, but it is how we choose to respond that determines what direction our lives take.  At some point, each of us must decide whether to transform those experiences into a personal power or risk unraveling under the weight of uncertainty.  This is a major tension inherent in teaching: do you equip others with the insight and confidence to move forward, or allow them to struggle without support?

biography

statement of purpose

statement of purpose

I am a multi-faceted designer from the Mississippi Gulf Coast who desires to reform existing barriers in the creative industry through research, collaboration and discourse.  This was discovered recently and is based on past experiences that shaped me into who I have evolved into today.

creative philosophy

The problem manifesting worldwide today is there is an existing expectation to manifest a good product in a limited and ever decreasing time frame.  I believe allowing more time for progress will lead to more attainable results.  Giving proper time to step away from a piece and then going back once a plan is formulated is necessary.

Graphic Design is where identity, expression and communication intertwine.  I have been overlooked for much of my time, and the creative process has an ongoing vulnerability attached for many others.  The awareness that has evolved over time gives me an opportunity to create an environment where every perspective matters, regardless who it comes from.

In design, there is often rejection and revision.  It isn’t about the perfect design, but rather the process in which one reaches their own result.  I would like to see others develop their design with intent behind it.  For them to be able to identify the “why” in their choices, even when their back may be against the wall.  Then there i

encouragement to transform one's voice

To succeed as a designer, one must find their own voice, viewpoint and conviction.  Through personal storytelling, critical thinking, and design advocacy, I want to help turn challenges into creative drivers.  Advertsity has the ability to shift and tune one’s focus and purpose to generate authentic communication.

mentorship for the future

encouragement to transform one's voice

My most meaningful educators respected me as a human behind the work versus using critique as power themselves.  Therefore, to succeed as an educator, I need to teach on a relational level versus hierarchical.  That means guiding over dictation, mentor over judging and challenge over discouragement.  This will create an environment that allows creative risks because one trusts the process.
